Op olympic 814SQN detach to RNAS Yeovilton


814 Sqn "The flying Tigers" based at Culdrose in Cornwall have been forward operating from RNAS Yeovilton during the Olympic games 2012 held in Britain.

Arriving Mid July the Merlins have been operating daily from Yeoviltons South dispersal.

With rotors running each Morning at 07:30 I could often get the Morning departure of Tiger 1 and 2 when the weather allowed before work.

The Merlin can carry out a number of roles including,

maritime sniping, fast roping and ISTAR and the crews from 

814 NAS operating them have been on call to respond to any incident involving safety and security of the games as directed by Maritime Force Commander Dorset, the Commanding Officer HMS BULWARK.
